About me

I was born in Colombia and I immigrated to the United States in January 1994 right after graduating from high school.

I am currently the Director of Mental Health Services Program at LSA Family Health Service ( LSA), a community based organization in East Harlem where I also live since arriving to New York City 21 years ago. In my role I continue developing and provideing high-quality therapeutic interventions for immigrant women and their families with sustained trauma. Utilizing a holistic approach, Mónica tailors mental health programming specifically for women of childbearing age with a history of trauma. She has presented her work at institutions and conferences such as NYU Silver School of Social Work, Teacher College-Columbia University, and the Philadelphia Trauma Training Conference. Mónica holds a master’s degree from The College of New Rochelle and is a Licensed Creative Art Therapist ( MS, ATR-BC, LCAT).
